We Went On A Skincare Haul According to Our Skin Types: Our Honest Review

Updated: Oct 4, 2019

We, girls, know how much of a distraught it can be to find skincare products that work well for our skin especially when Little Red Riding Hood is approaching. We want that glow, acne-free, soft baby skin but in all reality, it’s not 100% possible. Instead, the best way we can at least achieve either one of those criteria is by finding the right products for your skin type.

No one product would work the same for everyone and in fact, sometimes it could cause more harm than good if you don’t choose the right products.

So the ladies from Crunch decided to try out different skincare products based on their skin types (sensitive skin, dry skin and acne-prone skin) to test if it suited them or not:

What Emily Thinks:

1. Describe your skin type.

My skin can be described as combination skin but it is pretty sensitive, and it is very prone to redness or irritation. I often have to be very careful with new products I am trying, and often times, it takes some time for my skin to get used to the products, or worse, it may not suit it at all. During PMS, I tend to get redness and breakouts and would need extra mild products to keep it controlled.

2. Share with us the products you purchased.

I purchased two items:

  1. Caudalie Skincare Heroes Set

(Micellar Water, Instant Detox Mask, Beauty Elixir, Premier Cru The Eye Cream and Vinosource Moisturising Sorbet)

  2. SVR Sebiaclear Gentle Foaming Gel

The reason I purchased a Caudalie set

is because I have heard great things about this brand, especially for sensitive skin. I also wanted to try an entire range before committing to full sized products as it is always a gamble to see if my skin would react okay to the products or not. I also got the SVR Sebiaclear Gentle Foaming Gel
, because it’s targeted towards sensitive skin, and also reduce clogged pores to which I sometimes get around my T-Zone.

3. Out of all the products, which is your favourite so far? Why?

After trying the products for a week, my two favourite products are the Caudalie Beauty Elixir and the Premier Cru The Eye Cream.

The Beauty Elixir is one of their hero product and I understand why people love it. It smells amaaaazing, and it leaves the skin feeling hydrated and fresh. I like using it if I am having a long day out.

I also love the Premier Cru Eye Cream, as my skin is really sensitive, and most eye creams make my eye area sting a little, but this one does not. The texture is really creamy and it always feel like a little treat using it before I go to bed.

4. Out of all the products, is there anything you don’t really enjoy?

So far, I don’t really enjoy the Micellar Water, but that could be a bias opinion as I am not a fan of Micellar Water Make up removers in general. Comparing it to my usual preference of oil based remover, I find that it is tougher to remove my make up with the Micellar Water, and it requires harsher rubbing to get my makeup off completely, which makes me skin feel a little irritated.

5. Which product would you recommend people with similar skin types?

I really would recommend people with sensitive skin to try the Beauty Elixir, simply because it really refreshes the skin, and help hydrate it throughout the day. I like to think it acts as a layer of protection for your easily irritated skin.

What Ashley Thinks:

1. Describe your skin type.

I have dry skin. Sometimes feel like I’ve moisturized my face but people will tell me it’s dry 😭 so embarrassing.

2. Share with us the products you purchased.

I got a few different products to try, which is the:

  1. SVR Laboratoires Topialyse Emulsifying Wash-Off Micellar

  2. KORRES Natural White Tea Gel Cleanser

  3. Jurlique Hydrating Rose Essentials set

(Rosewater Balancing Mist, Rose Moisture Plus Moisturizing Lotion, Rose Moisture Plus Daily Moisture Balancing Serum and Rose Hand Cream)

I wanted to get a face cleanser that would not dry out my skin and cause itchiness in my skin after washing, and at the same time, also something that would properly moisturize my face. I got the Jurlique Rose range because I've always heard that rosewater is good for your skin and smells amazing. So why not give it a try!

3. Out of all the products, which is your favourite so far? Why?

It would be the SVR TOPIALYSE GEL LAVANT cleanser

for sure! It says it’s gentle and for sensitive, dry skin and helps reduce itching. It definitely felt this way. Initially I was worried to try but it was so good! Immediately after I cleansed my face, it does not feel like it’s dry to the point I needed to moisturize immediately.

4. Out of all the products, is there anything you don’t really enjoy?

To be honest, I love them all but if I were to choose which one was the least favorite, it would most likely be the mist from the Jurlique Hydrating Rose Set. I’m not much of a person that likes to spray things on my face because I’m not too sure if the full face is getting enough or too much product.

5. Which product would you recommend people with similar skin types?

Definitely the face wash from SVR! But to be honest and trying not to be biased, I would say all the products that I got. The rose scent from the Jurlique Hydrating Rose range lingers on after applying - makes me feel like a million bucks after applying. My face never felt this refreshed, soft and moisturized!

What Meagan Thinks:

1. Describe your skin type.

I have combination and acne-prone skin! The “best” type of skin haha. I am oily at the T-Zone area, my cheeks are generally dry and acne normally forms around my jaw area during my period and when I’m stressed!

2. Share with us the products you purchased.

I got several products because I wanted to change up my entire skincare routine & prayed hard that I won't get a face full-blown with acne - how adventurous, I know.

  1. YES TO Cucumbers Calming Facial Wipes

  2. Sukin Blemish Control Set

(comes with a cleanser, toner, moisturiser and a spot gel)

  3. The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

3. Out of all the products, which is your favourite so far (can be more than 1)? Why?

The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

and the YES TO Cucumber Calming Facial Wipes
for sure! Within the first 2 days of using the Niacinamide in the AM and PM, I could see that I was less oily, pores are slightly less visible and my acne around my jaw area were more “contained” and less red for some reason (thank goodness!). I look forward to see on how much it will improve my skin’s condition!

For the YES TO Cucumber Facial Wipes

, I love the refreshing scent and feeling of my skin after using it. It really helps to get my make up off, the material of the wipes is gentle on my skin and the formula does not feel drying AT ALL which is normally the case based on my experience with other wipes.

4. Out of all the products, is there anything you don’t really enjoy?

It’s not to say that I didn’t like the other products but if I really had to choose it would be Sukin’s Oil Free Moisturiser - maybe it’s because I’m not used to the texture and formula yet but my skin doesn’t really feel moisturised after applying it. Perhaps my cheeks are more dry compared to the other parts of my face & why I feel that way.

5. Which product would you recommend people with similar skin types?

Once again, I’d still say The Ordinary’s Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%

! It’s known to control sebum, reduce inflammation, combat existing and potential acne. Sounds like a mouthful and a miracle product but I really have faith that this product will really help my skin a lot. Let’s see how it goes!

There you have it! 3 ladies trying out different products based on their skin types and we hope that this review would give you some inspiration in trying out either one of the said products.
