Ways We Could Make This Christmas a Meaningful One

Christmas time has crept upon us again, and amidst the dazzling Christmas lights, window shops full of presents and the parties we tend to focus on during the holidays, it’s easy to lose track of what Christmas is at its core.
Without the presents or parties, Christmas represents the special time you spend with your loved ones, sometimes you may even find yourself during this festive month mingling with new friends. With this in mind, we should do things that would not only impact and bring the ones we hold close to together, but also to our community and environment during this jolly festive season.
1. Giving personal touches
During the festive holidays, when we think of doing something nice; whether that be for a colleague or family and friends, we tend to go out of our way to buy expensive gifts or do some kind of grand gestures to show that we value them. However, in actual reality doing simple things are what impacts people the most, as they least expect it.
Instead, use a little time of the day to write like an appreciation note that tells them that you cherish the moments you had together and also thanking them specifically for their help when you needed the most, will make for a more personal and heartfelt gift.
2. Prioritise time for a self-reflection
As the year is drawing to a close, it’s important that we dedicate time to reflect on our actions and behaviours throughout the year.
Did you reach the goal you promised yourself at the start of the year? Are you growing into a better person? Have you tried to go out of your comfort zone or have you kept inside your box?

These questions will help you determine what you have actually done and prompt you to realise that we have so much potential to grow and do better; if it’s the latter that you’re clinging on to. With self-reflection it will also help focus and set a conscious intention you want to prioritise in the new year instead of holding on to bad behaviours like being occupied by your phone instead of focusing on your work, or making decisions that are selfish instead of considering the effects it will have on others. Reflecting will help us build our strengths and minimise our weaknesses.
3. Hosting a get together with families and new and old friends
With the hectic lives, we tend to live every day, the holidays are the perfect time to gather yourselves with the people you love into the same room or even plan a time to get away from all the bustle of work.
It’s the perfect excuse to travel back to our hometown and reconnect with family or friends that we’ve lost touch in a while. If you have no way of travelling, you could invite friends or family over for a special day to celebrate the Christmas season by decorating the house or baking cookies. It’s not what you do that’s important but who you do it with, and by spending time with people it strengthens bonds or makes new connections with new people.
4. Give back to the environment and the community
Most of the time when we tend to give back to the community, we would opt for donating to different causes or charities, while that is great, we also have to put in the physical contribution that would make a change.
So, this year, we decided to focus on the environment aspect of giving back. We all are aware of the climate change that is threatening our planet and for our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), we provided our help to Taman Eko Rimba, Kuala Lumpur.
We cleaned the IG-worthy canopy walk in Taman Eco RimbaKuala Lumpur, planted a different kind of herbs back into the forest for biodiversity and re-painted the old walkway that will attract new tourists. We have to keep in mind that even with one person, we can make a difference, but if we take action as a whole, we can make a movement.
So, this festive season, we want to encourage you to consider choosing a cause that you believe in and volunteer together with your loved one to give back, celebrating the togetherness while making a positive impact.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all of us!
