Quick & Easy Desserts You Can Make to Satisfy Your Sugar Cravings

by Lavanya Patrick. |

Being at home for too long could end up with us feeling bored. This is when our creative juices get flowing and we start to look for fun ways to keep ourselves entertained. What I usually love to do when I'm bored is to bake; however, there are days where I just get lazy. I'm sure you've felt the same way too - like, you really want to bake something to satisfy your sweet cravings, but you're too lazy to spend time on it. Lucky for you, I'm here to make things easier. Below is a list of desserts that are quick and easy to create.

Chocolate mug cake

4 tablespoons all purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

2 tablespoons cocoa powder

½ teaspoon baking powder

3 tablespoons milk

1 egg

¼ essence of your choice

This cake is super easy to make. First you mix all the ingredients in a large mug. Start with the dry ingredients and then the wet. You can add in any essence of your choice for a lil extra flavour. I prefer using vanilla essence but I’ve tried it with peppermint and orange essences as well and it turned out pretty good too!

Put the mug in your microwave and set the temperature on high. Let it cook for about 2 minutes. You'll know it's done when the cake is firm.

You can top it with whipped cream, chocolate chips, or even ice-cream; but if you prefer eating it as it is, that's fine too! You can have this dessert after lunch or even as a snack while you  Netflix and chill.

Fruit Yogurt

Fruits of your choice

Plain yogurt

So this is a super healthy and easy dessert to make all you'll need are a couple of your favourite fruits and plain yogurt. This is a perfect dessert to eat after a workout so that you feel re-energized but I also love eating this dessert after lunch as it’s a great substitute for when I’m craving sugary treats.

Chop your fruits up and put them in a tiny bowl and add in your yoghurt. Mix it up and it's ready to eat. What's cool about this recipe is that you can modify it to your taste. Add in as much or as little yoghurt as you wish, it's up to you. I like having this with green apples, blueberries and strawberries and I prefer adding three big spoons of yoghurt with it.

Butter cookies

A stick of butter

¼ cup sugar

1 cup all purpose flour

Preheat your oven to 300°. Next mix the butter and sugar using an electric mixture until butter is white and fluffy. Then add in flour and mix well until a dough is formed.

Make balls with the dough and place them on a baking tray, try placing them far apart as these cookies get bigger in the oven. Put two fingers between each cookie and that’s the perfect distance for to bake at. Bake for about 15mins until the edges of the cookies are golden.

This is a super simple cookie recipe that is perfect for your teatime. If you’re feeling fancy, you can even top the cookies with chocolate sprinkles before baking.

Milo Balls

Plain biscuits

Condensed milk

Milo powder

Shredded coconut (optional)

I learned about this recipe as I was browsing through the internet. It's really easy to make. First, crush as many plain biscuits as you like till they are fine, I used Marie biscuits for this. Next, stir in condensed milk bit by bit till the consistency is thick.

Try roughly forming balls with them and if they don't fall apart, you’re doing it right. If they are falling apart, add in a lil more condensed milk to get the mix sticky again. Lastly, add the Milo powder and then you can start rolling the mixture into smoother balls. Once your balls have been nicely done  you can coat them with Milo powder, but I prefer using shredded coconut. You can choose to make these Milo Balls as a tea time snack.

Banana Pancakes

1 ½ Banana

2 teaspoons cinnamon powder

I love making these banana pancakes for breakfast because they’re super easy to prepare and they give me the energy I need to go through the day. To make these pancakes you’ll have to use a fork and mash the bananas up and then break in the eggs. Once the mixture is well combined add in the cinnamon and mix well.

I’m usually able to make about 6-8 mini pancakes with this but you could choose to make 2 regular sized pancakes as well. You could eat this as it is but I love having my pancakes with honey.

Coconut Candy

1 cup desiccated coconut

½ cup honey

1 cup melted chocolate of your choice

I learned about this recipe recently and I had to try it out as I am nuts for coconuts. It’s super easy to make and it’s a delicious dessert that can be enjoyed at any time of the day. To make these coconut candies first combine the coconut and honey together when the mix is well combined you should be able to form tiny balls. When I made these I had to add a little extra coconut because the mixture wasn’t strong enough to form the balls.

Next coat these balls with chocolate and set them on a tray, let it sit in the fridge for about 30-40 minutes before serving. I’m a huge fan of cute looking desserts so I also added rainbow sprinkles on top of the chocolate coating before putting them in the fridge.

You don't even have to be a professional to make any of the desserts above, and you can even modify the desserts according to your preference. All the desserts above can be prepared within 20 minutes or less, so it saves you all the hassle of making them and you can have more time enjoying them instead. Have fun making and eating them!
