#MyFirstTime: I’m Engaged!

We’ve been together for almost five years. Getting engaged was the biggest, most important decision I have ever made in my life. I have a fiancé now. Not a boyfriend. A FIANCÉ! I never thought that this would really happen!
It was not the usual bended-knee moment for us. The proposal came when his family visited my family’s home – it was a small gathering between families, relatives and close friends to seal the intention of marriage between us. I can still remember how nervous I was; my hands were cold, and my whole body was trembling and sweating all over when his mother first put the ring on me. It was like a rush of heat and a wave of uncontrollable emotion swept right through my body. I was speechless, but emotionally it was a crazy, exciting shot of pure joy from head to toe for me.
All I can say is that being engaged is so much more than the engagement itself; the overwhelming support and the rush of love from families and friends is incredible. I am so grateful to have this as we’re going into the next chapter of our relationship.
Being engaged does feel different. I don’t know how to describe it but it feels like an instant close partnership, a squad, a duo. Most aspects of our lives become more and more of a team effort and decisions made aren’t only up to you. Everything feels easier and we are completely united. There is a sense of strength in us, a feeling of being further grounded (despite all the fights and arguments).
Being in love is like a journey, like walking down a long road with your significant other, not knowing what is coming next, but ready to walk through, come what may.
How’s the ring, you ask? It’s so sparkly, of course, and I keep looking down at my hand with disbelief– my hand looks so fancy now. Lol!
Two more months till our wedding day. Do pray for us!
