DIY Skincare Items You Can Make From Your Kitchen

Modern markets today produce numerous branded cosmetics with the latest technology which doesn't come affordable for everybody. Skincare routine is something very important these days as we are more prone to pollution which may harm our skin. The routine works like a cycle where you start from face wash to scrub to toner and to moisturizer, and this cycle costs half of your budget - depending on the brand you use. Consumers have a perception that ‘the expensive ones do miracles’. We splurge on high-end brands without noticing the the ingredients which are used in their production.

These DIY skincare products require not more than 3 inexpensive ingredients each, and showers you with an abundance of healthy natural goodness to your skin. Here are 6 main DIY skincare using ingredients you can find easily in your kitchen.
1. Milk & Honey Facial Cleanser
Source: Daybreak Facial cleansing is the very first step in the skincare routine. It must not be overlooked as it removes dirt, makeup residues, and other impurities on your face. So starting the routine with organic products is the way to go.
Milk has an active nutrient called Lactic Acid and it works as a deep pore cleanser. It cleanses out dirt, unclogs pores and reduces acne and pimples breakouts. Vitamin A, D, B12, B6, Biotin, Potassium and Calcium can be also found in milk which also helps for hydrating the skin. Honey has its own healing particles too. It heals wounds, maintains the pH value of the skin, and removes acne. The combination of both properties can moisturize the skin and inhibit acne-causing bacteria.
Here’s how you make the cleanser, you'll need: • 3 tbsp of Raw Milk • 1 tbsp of Honey Steps: 1. Mix the two ingredients until you achieve a creamy consistency. 2. Dip a cotton pad into the mixture and gently apply it to your face in a circular motion. 3. Wash your face with room temperature water after 10 minutes.
2. Rice Water Toner
Source: Femina Rice water is gaining its popularity today as it's one of the best ingredients to soothe and tone your skin. Rice wine increases the collagen in the skin, making it supple and preventing wrinkles. Rice water contains minerals, vitamins and amino acids which helps in maintaining healthy, beautiful skin by tightening the skin and minimizing the pores. Rice water is one of the simplest facial toner you can make. It's totally free of preservatives and it helps in repairing and refreshing your skin.
Here’s how you make this toner; you’ll need: • 1/2 cup of uncooked rice • 2 cups of water Steps: 1. Rinse the rice thoroughly to remove any dirt or impurities. 2. Place the rinsed rice in a bowl and add 2 cups of water. 3. Soak the rice for 15 to 30 minutes. 4. Strain the rice away from the rice water and set aside. 5. Pour the rice water into an airtight container and store it for one week in your fridge. 6. Pour a bit of the rice water to your cotton pad and apply to clean skin.
3. Aloe Vera Oil Moisturizer
Aloe Vera is a wonder plant which has excellent cooling and anti-inflammatory properties. It works as a protective layer of your skin and helps to retain moisture of your skin. Aloe Vera is also known to penetrate the epidermis (the outermost layer of the skin) faster than water. On the other hand, Coconut oil works as an agent to squash breakouts and also helps in evening your skin tone.
Lauric and caprylic acid in coconut oil helps to reduce redness and inflammation in your skin. You can also use coconut oil as a makeup remover, as it softens your skin and easily removes stubborn makeups without harsh rubs. Vitamin E secures your skin as it is an antioxidant that helps fight free radicals your skin is prone to due to unprotected sun exposure and air pollution. Combining these three ingredients does wonders to your skin in terms of repairing and rejuvenating.
To make this moisturizer, you’ll need: • 1 tbsp of Aloe Vera Gel • 1 to 3 drops of Coconut Oil • 1 capsule of Vitamin E oil Steps: 1. Mix 1 tbsp of Aloe Vera Gel in a bowl with 1 to 3 drops of coconut oil. 2. Add 1 capsule of Vitamin E oil in that mixture and whisk it till you get a thick, foamy consistency. 3. Apply the mixture on your skin and store the rest in a container up to 3 days max in a room temperature.
4. Wild Turmeric mask (Kasturi Manjal)
The secret weapon to saving all kinds of discomfort that takes place on your skin inside out. It's an anti-inflammatory agent that works miracles for redness and itchiness. Turmeric is high in antioxidants that slow down cell damage. It is widely used as a skin exfoliator and to improve skin texture. Turmeric also helps to cure psoriasis and eczema. You will get many varieties of Turmeric but Kasturi Manjal is the ideal type to use on the face. If you’re worried, rest assured that not only turmeric does wonders to combat the impurities on your skin, it will not sting or stain your face.
Here’s what you need for the mask: • 1 tbsp Yogurt (Homemade / Store bought) • 1/2 tbsp of Powdered Wild Turmeric Steps: 1. Cleanse your face and your make up residue. 2. Rest a warm towel on your face to open up the pores. 3. Mix the two ingredients into a nice thick paste
4. Apply the mask evenly on your face. 5. After 5 minutes when the mask has completely dried, scrub the mask on your face for 2 minutes. 6. Wash your face with lukewarm water. 7. Reapply this for 5 days continuously (once in a day ) to repair and get a flawless skin.
Note: Do not store these natural products for too long, it is preferable to make them fresh every time as it works better on your skin (except the oil moisturizer).
