10 Beauty Regimes That Are Actually Worth the Hype
By Rachel Yeoh. |
Well, hello there beauties!
Isn’t that what every beauty guru on YouTube starts off with? But it is good –a sprinkle of positivity even if you are reading this with your glasses at the lower end of your nose bridge, hair dishevelled and brought together in a messy bun, wearing your holey but super comfortable PJs.
Beautiful, that’s what you are!
But, sometimes you got to turn it up a notch and get the glow going on your face and body. Undeniably, when you feel good about yourself, it is manifested in your confidence levels through the way you talk and walk.
So today, we are going to walk through some beauty regimes that are a little more extra than your usual facial cleanser, toner, moisturiser and general hygiene.
1. Double Cleansing
Let’s start at the very beginning – the face; always the face.
Your face is exposed to dust and grime every day. Double cleansing is one way to ensure you get all of the yucky stuff off. Start off with an oil or cream cleanser (usually without water). With oil cleansers, after massaging it onto the face, gently introduce water and lather up to an emulsion before rinsing it off. For cream cleansers, after massaging it on your face, wipe it off gently with a wet towel. Follow up with your usual facial cleanser.
2. Layering serums
Oh, food for your skin!
I always thought that my skin could only handle one type of serum at a time and that I would burden my skin if I were to load up on the products but it is not about how much product but the sequence of putting it on your skin.
First, set your face with your favourite toner after cleansing and start with the most lightweight of your collection of serums – basically, the most watery to the most dense before your moisturiser.
Here are some recommendations (but only use what your skin needs):
Hyaluronic Acid: Hydration
Vitamin C: Brightening
AHA, BHA or Salicylic Acid: Acne Prevention
Vitamin E: Antioxidant
One of my favourite places to read up and stock up on my serums is at Hermo.
3. Eyelash extensions or lash lifts
Okay, this is a little lavish and definitely not a must but "OOOH" when you have those seductive peepers without the need of eyelash curlers, mascara and cumbersome falsies!
Plus, there is this thing about waking up, glancing at yourself at the mirror and saying, I legit woke up like this – then flutter your long and curled up (yes, not sticking forward awkwardly or hiding behind the eyelid) lashes.
It’s so much easier to get ready in the morning sans make up. However, if the pricing may be too steep & knowing it will last a month or so, you could opt for lash lift instead. It’s easier to maintain as a special solution is applied on your own lashes to bond them “permanently” and lasts about 4-6 weeks.
4. Brow and Moustache Threading
It doesn’t matter if your eyebrows are thick like a bush or as sparse as grass in the desert – the trick is to have definition. Threading defines the eyebrow shape and makes it easier and faster to apply brow products as well. It’s amazing what a strand of thread can do to rid of fine hairs from the face. And all you ladies with that lady-stache, get rid of it in one go via threading as well. The process hurts – but beauty hurts so thread with caution. See what I did there?
5. Eye Cream

Crow’s feet and droopy eye bags are not exactly fashionable to sport in the future. So ladies, be sure to moisturise and hydrate the areas around your eyes with a good eye cream. Eye creams are formulated to suit the extremely delicate and thin skin around the eyes.
Squeeze a small amount (probably the size of a seed) and dab it gently around the eye area using your ring or pinky finger. Skin plumpers, dark circle erasers, lifting and brightening eye creams are available in store. Just snag the ones you think you need and start with that, every day and night and your future self will thank you!
Some people are genetically inclined to have better skin than others – no one is playing on level ground. However, thanks to the beauty industry, that gap is closing. One way to zoom towards better skin is multi-masking. After cleansing, spread the mud or charcoal mask paste on your face. Start off with this because the active ingredients in this mask actually draw out impurities.
Follow up with an under eye mask and a hydrating mask on top of it. When you take it off, do not rinse off the mask juices. Massage it onto your face and sleep with it – you might feel uncomfortable at first but you’ll forget it once you wake up with plump, bright skin!
Your pearly whites are one of the first things that people notice about you – unless you are Victoria Beckham. Oil pulling is actually an ancient old technique to clean teeth. All you have to do is just to take a spoonful of coconut oil and swish it round and about your mouth.
Do it for about 10 minutes and spit it out (at the appropriate place, please). What oil pulling claims to do is to kill bacteria, protect the gums, eliminate bad breath and whitens teeth (not too certain about this claim but do give it a try and let us know in the comment section below!).
8. Going hairless
There is nothing wrong about having hair – but when it is at unwanted places, you just want it off ASAP and waxing and laser hair removal treatments seems to be the best option out there rather than mindless shaving that can sometimes (more often than not) leave you with razor burns or in-grown hair. Not to mention the thick and dark hair growth that follows after.
Nope, nope, nope!
With waxing (cheaper option) and laser removal treatments (more expensive but worth it in the long run), you get to keep your arms, legs, arm pits and the nether regions clean and smooth. For you ladies, having the nether regions clear of obstacles do help with less messiness when the time of the month arrives.

Off with the dead skin! Our skin renews itself every 28 days and sometimes it does need a little help from us to help dust off the graveyard skin we are wearing on our outer layer. Pamper yourself with an aromatherapy salt scrub (eucalyptus and lavender is a good choice) once a week and feel your dead skin leaving your body, along with the disappointments of life. Plus, it will improve the body’s blood circulation and promotes the generation of new skin cells.
10. Pedicure spa
Manicure and nail art is great and all but oh, a pedicure spa is the extra you need in your life! Our feet don’t often get the recognition they deserve though they work so hard. Pampering them to a pedicure spa will help keep the cuticles clean, buff of the thickening skin at the soles and edges, kill the germs and give it a good nourishing treatment it needs. Unlike manicures, pedicures last a much longer time. Plus, you’ll be sure to be addicted to when your feet touches the ground once the pedicure spa is done. Heck, your toes might be able to read Braille!
