5 Ways To Wear Wacky Accessories in A Professional Setting

Who ever said wacky accessories have no place at work?
Being professional doesn't have to be synonymous with total lifelessness (even if that's how you feel on the inside some days). You can make any outfit a little more exciting by adding some interesting accessories. It might be daunting at first, but you might also attract some appreciation and be the envy of your coworkers if you're able to incorporate tiny touches of creativity to a professional look.
No clue where to start? Here are some tips to get the ball rolling:
1. Bring the focus to your hands
Worried about too much attention? Bring your accessories below eye level. Bracelets, watches, and bangles are all great options to try. You can wear a large, colourful piece, a chunky bracelet on its own or stack several small ones.
As an alternative, check out these bracelets you can layer on from River Island on Zalora.
Rings are also easy to pair with any outfit - get creative! Wear a big statement ring on its own, or (like the bracelets) complement it with some slim, stackable ones. You could also look beyond the usual metallics and incorporate some colour! Matching your nails with accessories could also be another way - a turquoise manicure with a complementary ring will draw plenty of second looks.
2. Make it a statement piece
Single out your accessories by making them the focal point of your outfit. Pare down your clothes by wearing muted colours and clean lines, but contrast that with a piece of jewellery that stands bright and proud. Earrings or necklaces are always good bets when it comes to this, and choosing one (or both if you’re feeling bold!) can be an easy way to wear something that makes you stand out of the crowd. Look for interesting shapes or bright colours - you’re bound to get tonnes of compliments!

3. Bags are accessories too.
If you’ve got a cool new bag you’ve been dying to wear more often but haven’t gotten the chance to, take it to work! Grab your sequined backpack or rattan handbag and walk into the office and own your look. Confidence is key to pulling off any outfit, no matter how wacky.
Bags can be a less daunting thing to accessorize with because you’ll probably be leaving it at your desk for the rest of the day. So if you do get any unwanted comments, you don’t have to deal with them the entire time you’re in the office.

4. Don't forget the hair.
Most of us probably left our hair accessories back in the recesses of our childhood, but there’s no adult handbook telling us that we can’t wear them anymore. On the contrary, we’re adults. We can do whatever we want. Plus, hair accessories are back on the trend radar again!
You can get these cute pearl hair clips from Shopee.
Hair clips are a great, low-maintenance option. Aside from styling it like above, a tip would be to gather your hair in a half-up, half-down style, or fasten it to your ponytail or the side of your head. If you feel that this isn’t up your alley, you can always go for a patterned headband or a simple butterfly clip to liven up a professional outfit.
5. Feeling courageous?
Go all out with a blazer or a jacket! Want to take the big leap and make a huge statement while staying professional? Try a bold jacket or blazer instead of the standard muted tones. Look for patterns and interesting shapes to wear with something understated, like a simple blouse and trousers, or a clean cut dress.
Perhaps, try to avoid wearing it when you might need people to focus on your work more than on you, like on presentation days.

We hope that these few items were able to inspire you to go bolder with your accessories even if you work in a white collar job! Most of these accessories are budget friendly and don’t require any commitment to it; even if you don’t like them, it won’t hurt your heart too much knowing how much you’ve spent on them!
