4 Ways To Instantly Feel And Look More Put Together

Some people wake up on the wrong side of the bed, but sometimes I feel like I’ve woken up on the wrong side of the universe and nothing is worse than being moody and have to drag yourself to work or to an event where you’re expected to look put together. I am barely in a mood to leave the bed, forget about putting on makeup! But life beckons and we have to act like adults. (#AdultingIsHard)


Fear not! After years of waking up before the break of dawn for work, I’ve figured out 4 magical methods to make sure I feel and look fresh and put together from 9 am to 6 pm and beyond.


Dry Shampoo


If you have limp and thin hair as most Asians do, or if you don’t like washing your hair daily, dry shampoo is your best friend. I can’t sing its praises enough for the countless times it has saved my self-esteem.


Dry shampoo comes in a canister like hair spray. You can get them at most pharmacies in full size for your dresser, and also a travel size so you can keep it in your purse or gym bag. It gives your oily, limp hair a fragrant instant lift, perfect for right before a meeting or after that lunchtime gym session.


If you are looking for a more environmentally and wallet-friendly hack, baby powder is just what you need. Sprinkle some on your roots then use a hairbrush to remove them, and say hello to volume and zhussh!


Get A Blazer


A quick and easy way to immediately feel more put together is to buy a well-fitting blazer in a neutral dark tone. Blazers instantly make you look more professional, powerful, and trustworthy and they are extremely easy to work into your wardrobe.


If you are in sales or a similar position where you might have to meet a client at a drop of a hat, keep your blazer in a protective bag in your car so you’re never caught off guard. A good blazer also works great with jeans and a plain shirt underneath for a friendly, yet professional look.


For ladies, throw some black heels into the mix and seal that business deal.


Lipstick/Lipbalm


I’ve always been intimidated by lipstick. Up until I was 20, I always thought lipstick was for women in glossy magazines or to be worn on a night out, but it’s so much more than that.


Having some colour or even just gloss on your lips instantly perks up your complexion and makes you look more put together. Especially if it’s a situation where a picture might have to be taken, having some colour on your lips will ensure you don’t turn out in the photo looking like a zombie.


Even if you don’t like lipstick (I still don’t), you can always pick up a tinted lip balm for cheap at any pharmacy. Keeping your lips moist and crack-free also gives a good impression to others and makes you feel good when you look in the mirror.


Fragrance


I feel perfume or cologne is the fastest way to lift your spirits instantly! I might be feeling like I woke up on the wrong side of the universe into a dark pit of annoyance, but the moment I spritz on my perfume, I’m on Cloud 9 and I just feel better.


I don’t know about you, but I feel myself gravitating towards people who smell nice and find myself thinking well of them. It’s an extra effort that can not only change YOUR mood, but also the emotions of people around you. If you choose the right scent, you can make someone feel at ease or happy around you. And that’s an incredibly powerful tool in life.


You don’t have to break the bank either! Perfumes and colognes come in a wide range of prices now. If you’re just starting out in life or if you have never worn scent before and are looking to experiment, don’t splurge on an expensive bottle just yet. Choose something that works for you and invest in a travel size so that you can enjoy that instant lift any time, anywhere.


We’re always going to have days where we just feel… well, meh. The key is to have simple tricks up your sleeve so that you can salvage your day. At least until you can get home and get at that tub of emergency ice cream.
